Lucha Underground S2E4 Recap: Joey Ryan, Undercover Cop

Photo from El Rey Network

On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, we saw the second luchador in two weeks make a debut, as well as two great matches. Kobra Moon made her debut facing Bengala, where she would end up winning after making Bengala tap out from the Snake Sleeper. Jack Evans defeated Drago, and has now given himself the nickname of “Dragon Slayer.” To main event the evening, Fenix defeated King Cuerno in a Last Luchador Standing match, where King Cuerno failed yet again to put Fenix away for good.

Tonight’s episode of Lucha Underground features the return of the youngest, and longest-reigning, AAA Mega Champion of all time, Texano.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Opening Segment
Ivelisse storms into Catrina’s office, and she suggests a Trios Championship title match against the Disciples of Death for tonight. Catrina refuses, saying that in her Temple, there are no automatic rematch clauses. Instead, Ivelisse, along with Son of Havoc and Angélico, will face another Trios team to possibly determine the #1 Contenders.

Vampiro announces that the main event tonight will be his apprentice, Pentagon Jr., taking on the former Lucha Underground Champion, Prince Puma.

Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, & Angélico vs. Chavo Guerrero & The Crew
Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, and Angélico took Lucha Underground by storm once the Trios Championship was revealed. Three former enemies, they managed to put their differences aside and work together to overcome the odds on several occasions. With Ivelisse’s leg injury as a big disadvantage, they lost the Trios Championship titles to the Disciples of Death, and look to regain their momentum tonight.

Towards the end of Season One, Chavo Guerrero returned to The Temple, and has essentially hired Cortez Castro and Mr. Cisco as his protection, and their influence helped Blue Demon Jr. defeat Texano at Ultima Lucha.

Both Chavo Guerrero and Ivelisse ended Season One with leg injuries, but since over six months had passed between Ultima Lucha and the second season premiere, they have had time to heal.

Angélico hits a double foot stomp from the top turnbuckle onto Cortez Castro to pick up the victory for the former Trios Champions. Winners: Ivelisse, Son of Havoc, & Angélico

After the match, Texano makes his return to the Temple to attack the Crew with his bull rope and get revenge from what transpired at Ultima Lucha, while Chavo Guerrero retreats to the back.

Backstage Segment
Joey Ryan approaches Cortez Castro, and talks to him about their undercover cop job. Their mission is to find Dario Cueto, while trying to convince the Temple that they are luchadores.

Joey Ryan vs. Cage
Joey Ryan as a wrestler is very sexual and perverted, and he looks like he is out of a 1970’s adult film. Cage, on the other hand, is a “machine,” who had an unbelievable amount of strength, along with an unexpected amount of agility.

Joey Ryan almost puts Cage away on multiple occasions in this match, but “almost” is not enough. Cage combined a delayed suplex with a sit-out tombstone piledriver to put away the debuting Joey Ryan. Winner: Cage

After the match, Johnny Mundo attacks Cage from out of nowhere. After attempting the End of the World, Cage counters and hits Weapon X (modified Gory special/facebuster) to leave Mundo laid out in the middle of the ring.

Backstage Segment
The new El Dragon Azteca is training with perhaps Lucha Underground’s biggest signee, Rey Mysterio. When El Dragon Azteca entered the Temple, he knew he would be sacrificing his body, so Mysterio advises that revenge is not an option. The new plan is to unite the seven Aztec tribes.

Prince Puma vs. Pentagon Jr.
Both of these men, along with several other luchadores, are focused on dethroning Lucha Underground Champion, Mil Muertes. Pentagon Jr. and Prince Puma have never faced each other in a one-on-one contest, and the winner will make a huge statement towards Muertes, as well as the rest of the roster.

Pentagon Jr. locks in a surfboard stretch, but Prince Puma gains leverage on Pentagon Jr. to gain the pinfall, although Pentagon Jr. thought he had the match won. Winner: Prince Puma
