Lucha Underground S1E18 Recap: First-Ever Steel Cage Match

Photo from El Rey Network

On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, we saw the in-ring debut of AAA Mega Champion (at the time) Alberto El Patron, who took on the man he beat for the title, Texano. We also saw Big Ryck earn an opportunity to take on The Crew, and increased tension between Mil Muertes and Catrina.

Tonight features Ivelisse taking Angélico with Son of Havoc as the special guest referee, as well as King Cuerno facing Johnny Mundo in a steel cage, which is the first time a steel cage will be used in Lucha Underground history.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Pentagon Jr. vs. Argenis
Over the past few weeks, Pentagon Jr. has been destroying his opponents. Not only would he defeat his opponents, he would break their arms after the matches as a sacrifice to his “master.” Argenis is not to be taken lightly, however, as he comes from a great Lucha Libre heritage, including his brother, Mysteziz (the original Sin Cara in WWE), who is one of the biggest names in Mexican wrestling.

Pentagon Jr. hits the package piledriver, then proceeds to lock in an armbreaker for the win. Winner (via submission): Pentagon Jr.

After the match, Argenis suffers the same fate as Famous B, Ricky Mandel, and Vinny Massaro, when Pentagon Jr. breaks Argenis’s arm.

Backstage Segment
Fenix and Catrina are backstage, and Catrina tells Fenix that the only way he will stop Mil Muertes, is if he buries him.

There is also a vignette showing Konnan preparing for revenge on Cage, after Cage busted him open with the Lucha Underground Championship title belt a few weeks ago.

Angélico vs. Ivelisse – Special Guest Referee (Son of Havoc)
A couple weeks ago, Ivelisse decided to fight Son of Havoc’s battle for him by taking on Angélico. Ivelisse would end up winning the match because of outside interference from Son of Havoc. With Son of Havoc, Ivelisse’s boyfriend, as the guest referee, the odds seem to be in Ivelisse’s favor.

Angélico attempts to hit Son of Havoc with a kick, but ends up knocking out Ivelisse. Son of Havoc gives a quick count so he can check on Ivelisse. Winner: Angélico

Backstage Segment
Mil Muertes is approached by Catrina, who warns him of his fate next week. Muertes will face Fenix next week in a coffin match, hoping to put Mil Muertes away for good.

King Cuerno vs. Johnny Mundo – Steel Cage Match
Over the last few weeks, King Cuerno has chosen Johnny Mundo as his new target of prey. Mundo was in the middle of a match with “The Machine,” Cage, when King Cuerno attacked him with a steel chair. The feud would continue to a match between Cuerno and Mundo a couple of weeks ago. The two would fight outside the ring, and would cause a double count-out, with the fight only ending when both of the were knocked out at the top of the stands. Tonight, King Cuerno and Johnny Mundo fight inside of a steel cage to make sure there is no escaping until there is a winner.

For those unfamiliar with the rule of a steel cage match, there are three ways to win: Pinfall, submission, or escaping over the top of the cage and having both feet hit the floor before your opponent.

Johnny Mundo starts to escape the cage, but instead leaps from the top of the cage and hits King Cuerno with a corkscrew moonsault for the pinfall victory. Winner: Johnny Mundo
