Lucha Underground S2E6 Recap: Fenix Rises for the Gold

Photo from El Rey Network

On the last episode of Lucha Underground, we saw developments in two big feuds, as well as two other big matches. Texano faced Chavo Guerrero and The Crew in a Gauntlet match (Texano fights one member at a time and must defeat them all, whereas if Texano loses once, the match is over.), and Texano fell short after some cheating from Cortez Castro. Johnny Mundo also won a match by cheating, thanks to the help of new luchadora Taya.

Two luchadores last week saw their second loss of Season 2. PJ Black wrestled his second match in the Temple, and after losing to The Mack in his debut, interference from Drago accidentally helped Jack Evans score the pinfall over “The Darewolf.” Killshot failed to build momentum yet again this season after being a little too ambitious, which resulted in King Cuerno picking up the victory in a non-title match.

Tonight, King Cuerno will be defending the Gift of the Gods Championship. Since he has failed twice to put away Fenix for good, Catrina has decided that “The Hunter” needs to defend his title. The Gift of the Gods Championship will be defended against Fenix in a ladder match, which gives Cuerno an opportunity to destroy Fenix, and keep his opportunity for a shot at the Lucha Underground Championship.

Along with the title match, Pentagon Jr. gets his wish in the form of a match against Prince Puma tonight. The last time these two squared off, Prince Puma barely picked up the victory, presumably because Pentagon Jr. thought he had the match won.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Sexy Star vs. Kobra Moon
Sexy Star had been captured by Marty “The Moth” Martinez, but she managed to escape a few weeks ago. This is Sexy Star’s first match in the Temple since her kidnapping, and she faces the recently debuted Kobra Moon. Kobra Moon faced Bengala in her debut match, and submitted Bengala with the Snake Sleeper.

During the match, The Mack comes down to ringside to cheer on Sexy Star. Marty “The Moth,” Sexy Star’s kidnapper, walks down the stairs to the Temple, and Kobra Moon uses this distraction to lock in the Snake Sleeper, forcing Sexy Star to tap out for the first time. Winner (via submission): Kobra Moon

Video Package
Famous B appears in a commercial-style promo, telling viewers to call him if they want to become famous. Afterwards, we see Rey Mysterio continuing to train with El Dragon Azteca Jr. for his “destiny.”

Prince Puma vs. Pentagon Jr.
These two competitors could not be more evenly matched inside the ring, but they are complete opposites of each other. Pentagon Jr. is one of the darkest, if not the darkest, luchador in the Temple. He would spend most of Season One sending sacrifices to his master, which ended up being Lucha Underground commentator, Vampiro. Prince Puma is the essence of “light” in the Temple; he never gives up, fights fair, and prides himself with honor.

During this match, Mil Muertes slowly makes his way to the ring, and removes his sling to show that he is healed from his arm injury (Pentagon Jr. broke Muertes’s arm several weeks ago.). Mil Muertes lays out Pentagon Jr. and Prince Puma to end the match, which ends with a double Flatliner to both luchadores. Winner (via disqualification): Pentagon Jr.

Announcement
In two episodes, Lucha Underground will host the second-ever Aztec Warfare. Twenty luchadores will compete for an opportunity to become the #1 Contender to Mil Muertes’s Lucha Underground Championship.

King Cuerno (c) vs. Fenix – Ladder Match (Gift of the Gods Championship)
King Cuerno was able to defeat Fenix for the Gift of the Gods Championship to begin Season Two of Lucha Underground, but since then, Fenix has defeated King Cuerno twice, including a Last Luchador Standing match. Tonight, whoever grabs the championship from above the ring first wins.

After hitting Cuerno with a Super Hurricanrana through a table, Fenix drags himself up the ladder to win back the title he lost five weeks ago. Winner, and NEW Gift of the Gods Champion: Fenix
