Lucha Underground S2E7 Recap: Death Reigns Supreme

Photo from El Rey Network

On the last episode of Lucha Underground, we saw the return of Sexy Star to the temple, a rematch between Prince Puma and Pentagon Jr., and King Cuerno defending his Gift of the Gods Championship.

Sexy Star took on Kobra Moon, but thanks to the distraction of Marty “The Moth” Martinez, Kobra Moon picked up the victory. Prince Puma and Pentagon Jr. were a perfect match for each other, with the match ending only because of interference by a completely healed Mil Muertes. To main event the evening, King Cuerno failed to defeat Fenix yet again, and Fenix won a ladder match to win back the Gift of the Gods Championship.

Opening Segemnt
The Mack approaches Sexy Star, asking her to be in his corner later tonight when he faces Marty “The Moth” Martinez. Sexy Star was kidnapped by “The Moth” and his sister (who is still unknown), and after escaping, The Mack was the first person she ran into. The Mack has been keeping an eye on Sexy Star, and with Sexy Star in his corner, this is sure to be interesting.

The Mack (w/Sexy Star) vs. Marty “The Moth” Martinez
The Mack starts the match by running into the ring and attacking “The Moth” right out of the gate. The Mack had a great match at Ultima Lucha, when he unsuccessfully took on Cage in a no disqualification match.

During the match, the lights go out in the Temple, and a mysterious luchadora enters, who makes Sexy Star have a panic attack. The distraction gives Martinez the advantage to put away The Mack. Winner: Marty “The Moth” Martinez

After the match, Martinez announces that the woman, Mariposa, is his sister, and that everybody should bow down to her. This explains the panic attack that Sexy Star had as soon as she entered the Temple.

Backstage Segment
Drago aggressively approaches Jack Evans backstage. Evans, who calls himself the “Dragon Slayer,” has made it a point to taunt Drago at every opportunity he has. Drago challenges Evans to “slay” him, but out of nowhere enters “The Darewolf,” PJ Black. Two weeks ago, Drago interfered in a match between Evans and Black, and accidentally sprayed mist into the eyes of PJ Black. All three men start fighting with nunchucks, and Aerostar comes from out of nowhere to even the odds, when Black and Evans decide to retreat.

Cage vs. Taya – No Disqualification
This match was originally supposed to be the rubber match in the series between Cage and Johnny Mundo, but Taya decided to take Mundo’s place in this match. Maya made her first appearance in the Temple when she interfered in a match between Mundo and Cage, slipping Mundo a lead pipe which gave him the win. The only information we know about Taya, other than her affiliation with Johnny Mundo, is that she calls herself the “perfect woman,” and as noted by Matt Striker, she was trained by wrestling veteran Lance Storm.

Cage starts decimating Taya during this match (props to Taya for taking all of these bumps in her debut), when Johnny Mundo enters the match to help her. Mundo hits Cage over the skull with two beer bottles, doing absolutely nothing. This freaks Mundo out, forcing him to retreat. After Mundo retreats, Cage hits Weapon X on Taya to pick up the victory. Winner: Cage

Video Package
Famous B is at it again with his “commercial” advertising fame to whoever calls the number on the screen. Considering Famous B was of no importance last season, this is very impressive character work from him.

Backstage Segment
Ivelisse exits Catrina’s office, informing them that next week, they have a chance to win the Trios Championship titles back. If they don’t defeat the Disciples of Death next week, they will “hit the open road.”

Prince Puma vs. Pentagon Jr. vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina) – Lucha Underground Championship
Several weeks ago, Pentagon Jr. broke the arm of Mil Muertes, putting him on the shelf until last week. During a match between Pentagon Jr. and Prince Puma last week, Mil Muertes revealed himself to be fully healed, and attacked both Pentagon and Puma, ending in a double Flatliner. All three of these men have unfinished business, and adding the Lucha Underground Championship to the mix just puts icing on the cake.

Somehow, Mil Muertes puts both Pentagon Jr. and Prince Puma away with a double Flatliner, retaining his championship. Winner, and STILL Lucha Underground Champion: Mil Muertes

After the match, Fenix appears at the top of the stands to cash in his Gift of the Gods Championship for a Lucha Underground Championship opportunity next week.
