Lucha Underground Recap: Lie, Cheat, Steal

Photo from El Rey Network

On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, Joey Ryan won the last Aztec medallion, and both the Trios Champions and Matanza Cueto retained their titles. Tonight, the winners of the Aztec medallions will square off in a Gift of the Gods Championship match.

Opening Segment
Cage storms into Dario Cueto’s office, frustrated over the fact that Chavo Guerrero stole his Aztec Medallion. Tonight, Cage vows to get it back from Guerrero.

In-ring Segment
Dario Cueto and Cage enter the ring to start the Aztec Medallion ceremony. The seven medallion holders (Texano, Aerostar, Joey Ryan, Siniestro de la Muerte, The Mack, Sexy Star, and Cage/Chavo Guerrero) will place their medallions in the Gift of the Gods Championship. Later tonight, there will be a seven-way match to determine the new Gift of the Gods Champion.

After the first six medallion holders come down to the ring and place their medallions in the championship, Chavo Guerrero comes down to the ring with a steel chair, and Cage waiting for him. Cage beats down Chavo Guerrero and opens the coin pouch to find out that Guerrero took it out. Guerrero hits Cage with a chair, giving him enough time to replace Cage in the Gift of the Gods Championship match. After Guerrero puts the medallion in the belt, Cage takes out his frustration by hitting Guerrero with Weapon X.

Daga vs. Argenis vs. Kobra Moon vs. Mascarita Sagrada (w/Famous B)
Before the match starts, Famous B takes the microphone to perosnally introduce “the winner of this match,” Mascarita Sagrada. Sagrada paired up with Famous B after Famous B promised Sagrada huge fame. Daga and Kobra Moon are relatively new to the Temple compared to their more experience opponents, only having wrestled a couple of matches for Lucha Underground.

Kobra Moon lays out Mascarita Sagrada, but motion Daga over to allow him to get the victory. It is unclear why Kobra Moon gave up the win, but we are sure to find out soon enough. Winner: Daga

Marty “The Moth” Martinez vs. Killshot
The last time we saw Marty “The Moth” Martinez, he lost to The Mack in a match for one of the Aztec medallions. Killshot has been on a roll as of late after revealing his history as a soldier in the military. Both of these luchadores are very different, but equally impressive.

The Moth attempts a splash into the corner, but Killshot catches Martinez and hits a modified Michinoku Driver for the victory. After the match, Killshot goes for his dog tags that are on the ring post, and Martinez attacks him from behind. After laying Killshot out in the ring, Martinez takes the dog tags for himself, then ends the assault with a curb stop on Killshot. Winner: Killshot

Texano vs. Joey Ryan vs. Aerostar vs. Siniestro de la Muerte vs. Sexy Star vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. The Mack – Gift of the Gods Championship
Over the past several week, all seven of these luchadores have won (or in Chavo Guerrero’s case, stolen) an Aztec medallion, giving them a shot for the Gift of the Gods Championship in this match. Even though this match includes seven luchadores, it is only one fall to a finish.

The Mack and Sexy Star might have the advantage in this match, since they both have an ally on their side. On the other hand, Chavo Guerrero is in the opposite situation since everybody hates him. Speaking of people who hate Chavo Guerrero, Cage interrupts the match. Instead of attacking Guerrero, Cage attacks everybody else.

After laying out everybody, Cage pulls Chavo Guerrero over Joey Ryan to give him the pinfall. Winner, and NEW Gift of the Gods Champion: Chavo Guerrero

Cage’s plan is revealed when he announces a match for next week. Chavo Guerrero will defend the Gift of the Gods Championship against Cage himself.
