Lucha Underground S1E33 Recap: 1,000 Deaths Await Prince Puma

Photo from El Rey Network

The previous episode of Lucha Underground featured one match: Prince Puma defending the Lucha Underground Championship against Johnny Mundo in an Iron Man match. Puma and Mundo battled for the entire show, and with just 8 seconds remaining, Prince Puma was able to get the lead and retain the Lucha Underground Championship.

Tonight’s episode of Lucha Underground features a #1 Contender’s match, which will determine who will face Prince Puma (or whoever the Lucha Underground Champion is) at Ultima Lucha. Drago already won a #1 Contender’s match, but with some “convincing” by Catrina, Dario Cueto has scheduled another #1 Contender’s match, where Drago will face Mil Muertes.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Opening Segment
To start off the show, Matt Striker announces the first official match for Ultima Lucha: Johnny Mundo vs. Alberto El Patron.

Sexy Star vs. Super Fly
Super Fly and Sexy Star have quite a bit of history with each other. Several weeks ago during the Trios Tournament, Sexy Star and Super Fly competed on the same team, along with Pentagon Jr.. Pitting the friends against each other, Dario Cueto would then put Super Fly and Sexy Star in a Mask vs. Mask match, where Super Fly would end up on the losing end. After losing his mask, Pentagon Jr. would add injury to insult and break Super Fly’s arm.

After Super Fly hadn’t been seen for weeks, Super Fly returned during Sexy Star’s submission match against Pentagon Jr.. Sexy Star seemed to have the match won, but Super Fly interfered, and ended up giving Pentagon Jr. the victory. Tonight, both competitors seek revenge on one another, but it’s fair to say that only Sexy Star’s revenge is justifiable.

After two powerbombs to Sexy Star, Super Fly picks up the victory. Winner: Super Fly

After the match, Super Fly attacks Sexy Star some more, and unsuccessfully tries to unmask her.

Pentagon Jr. vs. Aerostar vs. Marty “The Moth” Martinez vs. Cage vs. The Mack – Winner Receives Aztec Medallion
Before the match, Pentagon Jr. calls out Vampiro, since Vampiro stopped Pentagon Jr. from breaking Sexy Star’s arm several weeks ago. Vampiro seems to get ready to fight Pentagon Jr., but the referees separate the two, and Pentagon Jr. walks off to the back instead of participating in the match.

Whoever wins this match will be the third recipient of an Aztec Medallion, which has been said to provide good fortune to its owner.

Marty “The Moth” Martinez is the freshest face in this match, considering that this is only his second match in Lucha Underground (the first being a non-title match against Prince Puma).

The Mack and Cage fight outside the ring, giving Aerostar the opportunity to hit a springboard splash on Marty “The Moth” Martinez for the win, and the third Aztec medallion. Winner: Aerostar

Backstage Segment
The Trios Champions (Son of Havoc, Ivelisse, & Angélico) are training in the back, with the intentions of getting on the same page. They are interrupted by Catrina, who summons the Disciples of Death to attack the Trios Champions.

Drago vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina) – #1 Contender’s Match (Lucha Underground Championship)
Drago won the #1 Contender’s match two weeks ago, but has to win for a second time with Mil Muertes standing in his way. If he loses, he at least has the benefit of no longer being banished from the Temple.

Before Mil Muertes makes his entrance, Hernandez attacks Drago from behind, and even chokes him with his belt. Even though he was beaten down, Drago is ready to take on Mil Muertes (at least mentally).

Mil Muertes rolls out of the Dragon’s Lair, and hits Drago with a Flatliner to win the match, and earn his spot at Ultima Lucha. Winner, and NEW #1 Contender: Mil Muertes
