Lucha Underground Recap: 4 a Unique Opportunity

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week on Lucha Underground, every single Aztec Medallion was given to victorious luchadores who won very competitive matches. Sexy Star and Mariposa set their differences aside to pick up medallions. Marty “The Moth” Martinez, Killshot, and Siniestro de la Muerte won a Trios match to win themselves the medallions. Daga defeated Mascarita Sagrada, and newcomer Nightclaw was gifted a medallion to round out the recipients. With the road to Ultima Lucha Dos coming to a close, tonight is poised to be a very important night for the Temple.

Opening Segment
Before the show gets underway, Matt Striker announces that PJ Black, Johnny Mundo, and Jack Evans will defend the Lucha Underground Trios Championships against Drago, Fenix, and Aerostar. Also, Prince Puma will prepare for his big match against Rey Mysterio by facing his other former Trios partner, El Dragon Azteca Jr..

King Cuerno vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina)
Mil Muertes faced Matanza Cueto for the Lucha Underground Championship several weeks ago in Graver Consequences when Matanza but Muertes in a coffin. King Cuerno would then take the coffin and place it in his trophy room. After Muertes busted out of the coffin, he has been determined to destroy Cuerno. With so much emotion going into this match, it is surprising that this match is taking place before Ultima Lucha Dos.

Mil Muertes sets up a steel chair in the corner and attempts a spear on Cuerno. Cuerno dodges the spear, rolls up Muertes, and uses the ropes for leverage to pick up the victory. Winner: King Cuerno

Backstage Segment
Dario Cueto is in his office with Taya and Ivelisse, two of the most impressive female luchadores that Lucha Underground has to offer. To prove who the “baddest woman in the building” is, Cueto sets up a match for Ultima Lucha Dos: Taya vs. Ivelisse.

After they are dismissed, Catrina enters to demand a deathmatch between Mil Muertes and King Cuerno at Ultima Lucha Dos. Cueto hates Catrina, but knows that this is good business, so he makes it official.

Prince Puma vs. El Dragon Azteca Jr. (w/Rey Mysterio)
Prince Puma and El Dragon Azteca Jr. won the Trios Championships in a fatal four-way trios match, and had a short but decent run with the belts. In this match, these two change from being partners to enemies. Rey Mysterio is playing it smart by being at ringside so he can continue to train El Dragon Azteca Jr. as well as to scout Prince Puma.

Prince Puma hits the 630 Splash with ease, stares down Rey Mysterio, and covers El Dragon Azteca Jr. to pick up the win. Winner: Prince Puma

In-ring Segmenr
Before the match starts, Dario Cueto reveals big plans to kickoff Ultima Lucha Dos. These four men in the ring (Cage, Texano, The Mack, and Son of Havoc) will be involved in the “4 a Unique Opportunity” tournament, where the winner will, not surprisingly, earn a unique opportunity. Cueto calls this the greatest unique opportunity ever.

Fenix vs. Johnny Mundo (w/Taya)
Fenix and Johnny Mundo have a history that most recently goes back to the night that Johnny Mundo first earned gold in the Temple. Johnny Mundo and Taya assaulted Fenix backstage several weeks ago, and Mundo stepped in to help Jack Evans and PJ Black win the Trios Championships. At Ultima Lucha Dos, Mundo and his partners will defend the Trios Championships against Fenix, Drago, and Aerostar. This “first time ever” match is a good way for both of these men to feel each other out in the ring.

Taya distracts the referee, giving Mundo the opportunity to hit Fenix over the skull with his Trios Championship belt. Mundo then covers Fenix for the victory. Winner: Johnny Mundo
