The No. 3 Michigan State Spartans shockingly fell to the No. 11 Syracuse Orange, 55-53, on Sunday, March 18, in the 2018 NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32. Michigan State failed to cover the eight-point spread. The game went under the low total of 129.5.

Michigan State narrowly defeated Bucknell in the tournament’s Round of 64 on Friday and struggled against Syracuse’s vaunted 2-3 zone. Syracuse will move on to face Duke in a fascinating 11-versus-two matchup. Odds for that Sweet 16 showdown will soon be released by BetDSI Sportsbook, but we anticipate Duke, which has looked very impressive in its first two games, will be favored.

Senior guard Tyus Battle led Syracuse with 17 points. Oshae Brissett added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Syracuse struggled with foul trouble in the second half but played excellent defense in the final minutes. Both teams were stellar at the line at the end of the game. The Spartans had a chance to win it on a desperate heave from guard Cassius Winston at the buzzer, but it didn’t fall. This game likely marked the end of Miles Bridges’ stellar college career.

Though Michigan State was a No. 3 seed, the Spartans were given solid odds to win the tournament, with BetDSI pegging the Spartans at +750 to cut down the nets in San Antonio. Syracuse had much slimmer odds at +35000. Needless to say, this was a huge upset.
