Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox Free Preview 05/05/18

The Chicago White Sox are prepared to battle against the Minnesota Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field. WGN is in line to showcase the action and the opening pitch will be at 7:10 p.m. ET.

Minnesota Twins vs. Chicago White Sox Odds

Minnesota (-120) is coming into this one as the favorite over Chicago (+110) and oddsmakers have set the Over/Under for this night game at 9.5 runs (-120 for the under and +100 for the over). Gamblers can also wager on the game’s spread with the runline odds coming in at Twins -1.5 runs (+125) and White Sox 1.5 runs (-145).

Jets vs Predators

The White Sox are 9-21 SU and 16-13 ATS. The team’s lost 9.9 units for moneyline bettors while gaining 0.3 units against the spread (ATS). The White Sox are sending lefty Hector Santiago (0-0, 3.48 ERA) to the mound. Santiago has 20 punchouts and 10 walks to his credit, as well as a WHIP of 1.40. Santiago did not record a start against the Twins in 2017.

Chicago’s pitchers have given up 5.4 runs per game overall this year as a unit. Its starters have a 5.34 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 5.6 strikeouts per nine innings. The bullpen has a 4.55 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 9.3 K/9. In 13 games against divisional opponents, White Sox starters have an ERA of 4.26 and the bullpen’s ERA is 3.07.

The Chicago hitters are putting up 3.9 runs per contest, including 4.8 per game against divisional foes and 3.6 per game over their last five. The team has hit .230/.310/.382 over its last five matchups and is 1-4 SU during that stretch.

Mauer had a little trouble hitting lefties on the road last season. Over 82 such plate appearances, he put up a slash line of .286/.329/.338 (his total season line was .305/.384/.417).

The Twins have lost 0.5 units and are 3-2 ATS when facing a lefty starter this season. The over has hit in two of those games, compared to three that’ve gone under against left-handed starting pitchers. On the other hand, the White Sox have lost 6.2 units and are 12-9 ATS when facing a righty starter. The over’s cashed in eight of those games, compared to 11 that went under.
