MLB Picks: Yankees battle Red Sox Friday at Fenway

Baseball Betting:  The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox would prefer to be playing a meaningful three-game series that begins on Friday at Fenway Park but instead they are both just playing out the string.  It has been a miserable season for the Red Sox and even though the Yankees have had a better season, both teams are going to miss out on the playoffs.  The series is expected to feature the last three games of Derek Jeter’s career although there is still a chance Jeter could decide to sit out this series which would make Thursday’s home finale his last game.

Here is a look at Friday’s matchup and baseball predictions.

Probable Pitchers – Chris Capuano vs. Steven Wright

The Yankees will likely be going with Chris Capuano on Friday.  He has filled in for some of the injured players in the starting rotation and while his early numbers were good, his recent numbers are poor.  Capuano is simply a journeyman pitcher. He is 2-4 on the season with a 4.67 ERA.  He gave up four runs in just over 5 innings last time out in a loss to Toronto.

The Red Sox are likely to go with Steven Wright on Friday. He has pitched seven innings this season without a decision.  He is just another of the September players getting a look for a team that is out of the race.

Game Notes

The Yankees are 39-39 on the road this season and that record is far better than the home mark of the Red Sox who had a record of 31-44 in their first 75 home games.

Series Notes

The Yankees have won six of the last ten in this series with four of the last five going over. The teams have split their last ten games in Boston with three of the last four going over.  The teams last met in Boston in August and it was the Yankees winning two of three.

MLB Picks

Neither team has a quality pitcher going on Friday so we’ll look for this game to go over the total.
