NBA News: Ex-NBA Commissioner David Stern Suffers Sudden Brain Injury

When you’re my age and you think of the NBA commish, it’s not Adam Silver who comes to mind first. Indeed, it’s David Stern.

Unfortunate news broke later Thursday evening with multiple sources reporting that Stern suffered a sudden brain hemorrhage. For instance, Shams Charania is one of the said reporters covering the story.

Moreover, the league issued a statement.

“NBA Commissioner Emeritus David Stern suffered a sudden brain hemorrhage earlier today for which he underwent emergency surgery. Our thoughts and prayers are with David and his family.”

Notably, Stern served as the commissioner of the NBA from 1984 until 2014. During his tenure, the league underwent monumental progress that made it the popular sport it is presently. For example, the NBA added seven teams and relocated six other franchises.

Equally important, Stern was the man in charge for almost the entire career of Magic Johnson. Therefore, Johnson also issued some well wishes.

Reports state that the average player salary jumped from $250,000 a year in 1984 to more than $5 million during Stern’s time in charge of the league.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Stern at this time for his well-being. We will have more on this story as it develops.
