New York Giants News: Saquon Barkley Talks About Ankle Injury

While Daniel Jones was busy in his NFL debut with a sparkling performance, something else big took place in the New York Giants 32-31 win at Tampa.

Indeed, Saquon Barkley left the game on crutches with an apparent ankle injury. Now, NFL.com provides a Monday morning update that develops a timeline of how much time Barkley will be out for the Giants.

Of course, with any injury; it can be a simple wait and see. In this case, a source close to the Giants tells NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Barkley ‘will miss several weeks’.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Barkley will be out the next several weeks because of a high-ankle sprain, per a source informed of the situation.

Additionally, Barkley seems to downplay this injury to a good degree. While it is normal for a player to do this, one feels after reading his quote that Barkley may attempt to get back on the field as quickly as possible. Furthermore, he says it could be a lot worse.

“Would I say I’m really hurt? No,” Barkley told NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones after the game. “Could it be way worse? Yes. I’m not out for the season. I’m going to try to do hopefully whatever I can do to get back as quickly as possible. Not just myself but for this team.”

Equally important, the Giants got their first win of the season on Sunday when Tampa Bay’s kicker missed a chip-shot field goal as time expired after previously missing two extra-point kicks earlier in the contest. Moreover, they did all that heavy lifting with Barkley accumulating 10 yards on eight carries before exiting with the injury.

While we don’t know exactly when Barkley will return to action – this should become more clear as the days and weeks move forward. So goes life as an NFL player, especially running back. Still, it’s suddenly exciting to think about the Giants’ offense combining rookie Quarterback Daniel Jones alongside the 2018 second-overall pick.

Finally, Jones shocked the NFL world with his performance Sunday. The fellow first-rounder threw for 336 yards and two touchdowns along with running for the winning score. It’s positive news that Barkley won’t miss a longer period of time as he mentioned, and Giants fans can get excited about their possibly rising-star at the Quarterback position.

It’s amazing how fast things can change in the NFL. We will continue to update the Barkley injury news as it becomes available.
