NFL News: Bobby Wagner Gets Extension, Lions Signing Mike Daniels and More

There will be no new team on the horizon any time soon for All-Universe linebacker Bobby Wagner. One of the handful of men in the Madden 20 “99 Club,” Wagner and the Seattle Seahawks agreed on a new, three-year, $54 million contract with $40.2 million in guaranteed money. He is now the highest paid inside linebacker in the league, making an average of $18 million a year.

The Seahawks are smart to have jumped on this signing and keep peace between the two sides. This explains why Wagner reported to training camp without a new deal. A fresh, huge contract was already in the works.

Wagner was the top rated linebacker in the league by Pro Football Focus last season and one of the top rated defenders overall, hence the Madden 20 99 rating. In 2018, he recorded 138 tackles, six for a loss, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble return, 11 passes defended, one interception and one defensive touchdown.

Mike Daniels to sign with Detroit

You can start making the jokes about him wanting to  “sign with a contender” now. Former Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Mike Daniels is remaining in the NFC North and is reportedly about to sign a one-year, $9.1 million contract with the Detroit Lions. The deal comes with $7.8 million in guaranteed cash.

The contract isn’t much bigger than the one he was cut from in Green Bay. He was due to make $8.1 million with the Packers, a number that team thought was too steep.

Surprise! Robert Nkemdiche not in shape

The writing is on the wall for Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche. Already on the bubble and headed for bust territory, the former first round pick out of Mississippi showed up to camp “not in shape,” according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Nkemdiche is coming back from a late-season ACL tear, so this is a setback he did not need.

He was just arrested in June for speeding and driving with a suspended license. The end might be coming soon for Nkemdiche in Arizona.
