Rob Gronkowski is arguably the greatest tight end to ever play in the NFL. He was certainly the most dangerous, complete player at his position in the modern era, so it was a bummer to see a guy of that talent call it a career in the offseason. But has he?

Gronk has asserted, time and again, when asked that he has no desire to return to the league and his body, at least, shows that it’s true. He’s easily dropped 20 pounds in the offseason and looks lean and fit, but certainly not ready to put on his cleats again. So why is he working out with his former quarterback Tom Brady?

Monday, Gronkowski and Brady did a workout at UCLA, according to MassLive.com. Gronk was participating in a charity basketball game and plans on attending the ESPYs. It’s likely that Brady will also be in attendance at that event and they used the opportunity to get in a throwing session and catch up. Still, when it’s Brady and Gronkowski, people are going to notice.

Last week Gronkowski told the NFL Network’s Rich Eisen that he has no intention of putting his pads on again.

“There’s definitely going to be times when you miss it and everything,” Gronkowski said. “I would always say that it’s still the offseason right now. I mean I can’t really say how I’m going to feel about it when the games start rolling around and everything. You know, I just felt like it was time. I feel really good right now and it was just definitely something I felt like it was the right time and the right thing to do. To have that load off your back, I mean I’ve been playing football for 15 years straight in a row of that grind. Just relaxing right now feels good.”

Gronk played nine seasons in the NFL, all with the Patriots, finishing with 521 receptions, 7,861 yards and 79 touchdowns.
