NFL News: Cam Newton Hurt, Did Patriots Try to Trade for Trent Williams?

Cam Newton Panthers

This is why it’s smart not to play your starters in the preseason. In an effort to prove that Cam Newton’s shoulder was OK, the Carolina Panthers may have injured his foot. Newton left their preseason game against the New England Patriots after getting sacked in his third series.

Yes, you read that right, his third series.

There’s no other information available as of this writing on Newton’s foot, but trust that the Panthers will wish they were talking about his shoulder tomorrow, regardless. The shoulder, at least, looked fine as Newton went 4-for-6 passing in the game.

Did the Patriots put in an offer for Trent Williams?

There’s no question that Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams wants out of D.C. There’s also no question that if he were traded, there are worse places to end up than the New England Patriots.

Rumors swirled Thursday that the Pats offered a 2020 first round pick to the Redskins for Williams and, if that’s true, there’s no excuse at all for Washington to still have the man on its roster.

Of course, after that came out, other reports disputed it. The rumor now is that the Skins “leaked” the rumor so teams would know Williams’ value and that he was officially on the block. A healthy Williams is worth a first rounder. A Williams that still has surgery in his future and may not play for a month at best, is likely a guy worth a third rounder at best.

Marshall Faulk training Ezekiel Elliott

Marshall Faulk’s post NFL and broadcast career has now veered into making Ezekiel Elliott vomit. Such is the vow of the Hall of Fame running back as he ventures to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to assist Elliott in getting season-ready.

“He (Elliott) has been busting his butt training,” Faulk said. “I got some drills and some stuff I used to do. …I’ve challenged him with his conditioning and trying to get him closer to football-ready, not just being in good shape. So I’m going down to try and make him throw up. …Oh, I’m going to get him. I got to make him throw up.”
