NFL News: Frank Ragnow and Jarrad Davis Both Have Ankle Sprains

It could have been worse. After playing starters longer than he should have Friday night against the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia informed reporters that both starting center Frank Ragnow and starting linebacker Jarrad Davis both suffered ankle sprains.

That’s good news, even if both men might miss Week 1. They should be able to return and play in the 2019 season.

“They will be healing day-by-day,” Patricia said. “We’re still evaluating where they’ll be at. I would say any time you have something like this we don’t try to put a time table on it cause it just puts an unnecessary target on the situation. It’s not necessary. I will tell you this, they will not be playing in Cleveland this week. We’re just going to concentrate on getting them out there as soon as they can.”

With the rash of new injuries over Thursday and Friday’s preseason games, NFL teams should take a long, hard look at how they use their starters in the exhibition season.

Cowboys wearing “cursed” jerseys twice at home

For years, the Dallas Cowboys wore their white jerseys at home, forgoing the NFL norm of wearing the dark jerseys in your home stadium and whites on the road.

This year, they’re mixing it up more. According to ESPN, the Cowboys will wear blue jerseys with white pants against the Minnesota Vikings and against the Los Angeles Rams. The rest of their home games will be in standard white or color rush.

Why is this news? Because the blue jerseys are supposedly “cursed” after the Cowboys lost a 1968 playoff game and Super Bowl V wearing them. Dallas is 67-70-1 in their blue jerseys since they entered the league in 1960. Incidentally, the next time the Cowboys made it to the Super Bowl, Super Bowl X to be exact, they wore the whites and still lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 21-17.

Personally, I think the blues look good and curses only work in baseball and for video game covers.
