It’s not made headlines much at all this offseason, but the Los Angeles Rams have apparently been in the process of locking up their franchise quarterback long term. Word broke Tuesday night that the Rams and Jared Goff have worked out a four-year extension that will pay Goff $32 million a season.

It sounds much like the deal his draft-mate, Carson Wentz, got with the Philadelphia Eagles. This is good news for Los Angeles, who will now have all their key players under contract for the next few years. It’s even better news for the Dallas Cowboys, who now have a hard number in their negotiations with quarterback Dak Prescott.

Goff didn’t hold the Rams up or reset the market. Prescott will likely get a similar deal as the two men that were drafted significantly higher than him in 2016.

After a disastrous 0-7 start to his career under the hapless Jeff Fisher and offensive coordinator Rob Boras, Goff has flourished under head coach Sean McVay. He’s 26-9 including the playoffs in the last two seasons and led L.A. to an NFC Championship last year. In 2018, he completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 4,688 yards, 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and made his second consecutive Pro Bowl.

Trent Williams might show up after all

Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams made it clear all offseason that he had no desire to remain with the team. Apparently, as the regular season fast approaches, that stance has reportedly softened.

The same guy that said there was “zero chance” of Williams returning changed his tune. Williams former teammate, DeAngelo Hall, said on his podcast that Williams might return “sooner rather than later.”

NFL insider Ian Rappaport confirmed that Williams could be back for Week 2. Williams, even if he does show up, hasn’t been medically cleared to resume playing football. He had a benign tumor removed from his head this offseason and might require more surgery.
