NFL News: Richie Incognito Suspended Again

Richie Incognito would be a lot better off if he lived his personal life by the definition of his last name. Instead, Incognito has run afoul of the NFL once again, this time before he even suited up on a football field after coming back from a single-season “retirement.” The troublemaking guard has been hit with a two-game suspension from the league for violating the NFL person conduct policy.

Incognito’s extremely lenient two-game suspension comes from a couple of incidents where he ran afoul of the law, one at his own father’s funeral in April. In case you need me to type that out again, Richie Incognito was arrested and charged with making threats and damaging property at his father’s funeral, reportedly threatening the mortuary’s employees by telling them he had guns in his truck. Oh, and also he threatened to cut off his dead father’s head.

Incognito plead guilty to disorderly conduct so the other charges would be dropped. He was put on 11 months probation and a 90-day suspended jail sentence in addition to a forced mental health screening. Because, obviously.

Of course, that’s just one thing. Incognito also plead guilty to an August, 2018 incident where he was busted for punching a hole in the wall and ripping out a security system while arguing with his grandmother. Let me type that out again. The four-time Pro Bowl guard and current Oakland Raider was arrested, charged and plead guilty to criminal damage and disorderly conduct after trashing a security system and violently punching his 90-year-old grandmother’s house because he was mad at her.

Incognito plead down a domestic violence charge. Against his 90-year-old grandmother.

Two games, he’s been suspended. So, you know, that’s fair, I guess.

Incognito was originally drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams, who cut him in his third season for being, well, Richie Incognito. He was suspended by the Miami Dolphins for harassing his teammate, Jonathan Martin to point where Martin fled the team. He did not play in the NFL in 2014 due to the fallout of that incident.

But he’s back now. Hooray.
