NFL Picks: Giants and Cowboys Meet in NFC East Showdown

NFL Picks: “How ‘bout them Cowboys.” Former head coach Jimmie Johnson’s war cry of 20 years ago again rings true as the Dallas Cowboys are the surprise team in the NFL and coming off a statement making win at defending Super Bowl champion Seattle last week. The New York Giants are coming off an abysmal shutout loss at Philadelphia on the NBC Sunday Night stage last week but have been known for rising from the dead many times before.

The Dallas Cowboys will host the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium on Sunday with coverage on FOX starting at 4:25 PM ET. Dallas opened as a three point favorite with a total of 50.

A Giant Humiliation

The Giants were rendered helpless in their 27-0 loss at Philadelphia as their 24th ranked offense was exposed for all of its weaknesses and their 22nd ranked defense was of little help. The Giants are 3-3 straight up, 3-3 against the spread, and 3-3 on totals.

Big D

Dallas is 5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS, and 3-3 on totals after their attention grabbing 30-23 win at Seattle which gives them considerable credibility as a bona fide contender. The Cowboys boast the NFL’s fourth ranked scoring offense and eighth ranked scoring defense. After being written off for dead following an opening day home loss to San Francisco the Cowboys are tied for the top of the NFC East. The fact that Dallas kept its poise after falling behind 10-0 at Seattle speaks well of their potential.

Matchup and Pick

The Giants have been a solid road betting value lately with five payouts in their last seven away games as 14 out of their last 20 away games have gone under the total. Dallas has dropped five out of their last seven home games against the spread with 11 out of their last 18 home games going over the total.

Dallas has covered the spread in four out of their last seven games against the Giants with eight out of the last 10 meetings between the Cowboys and Giants going over the total. The Giants have paid out in four out of their last five games at Dallas however with seven out of the last nine meetings in this series at Dallas going over the total. It would be just like Dallas to suffer a letdown now that the public believes in them again. We’ll make a contrarian call for the Giants (+3) and over the total of 50.
