Patrick Mahomes has barely cashed his first NFL check from the Kansas City Chiefs and already somebody is trying to take his money. In his case, it’s not some sticky-fingered relative with a sob story, it was an actual robber, who cornered Mahomes and two friends outside of his home in Tyler, Texas, and took everything they had on them.

The robber acted as if he had a gun in his waistband. Mahomes and his buddies didn’t test if it were true and took him at his word.
A few hours later police arrested two men, Michael Pinkerton and Billy Ray Johnson, in connection with the crime. No gun was found and Pinkerton, according to the cops, confessed to the robbery. He’s been charged with felony aggravated robbery. According to the Sheriff’s office, Mahomes wasn’t specifically targeted and he and his buddies were just random victims. So, that’s good, I guess.
Mahomes was unhurt and the Chiefs released a statement, “The team is thankful Patrick and everyone involved are safe because that’s what’s most important.”
Lacy meets contract-mandated weight goals
Hey, Eddie. I feel you. Lacy has long struggled with his weight as an NFL player and the Seattle Seahawks filled his new free agent contract with incentives on meeting certain weight goals. Monday, Lacy met the first one, weighing in under the mandated 255 pounds. He was 253.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was just as excited as Lacy at the benchmark, telling a local radio station, “He (Lacy) looks great. He’s huge and he’s going to keep playing huge.”

Lacy is down from a high of 267 pounds on one of his free agent visits this offseason. He’s actively working to enter Seahawks camp in the best shape of his life. The Seahawks, my paying out these incentives, are helping with that and will reap the benefits on the field.
Packers lose rookie linebacker for a while
Vince Biegel’s NFL stint took a hit before it really got started. Monday, the Green Bay Packers announced Biegel had broken the fifth metatarsal in his foot and will miss all of spring camp. He’s expected to be ready for training camp when it opens in July.
This is the second time Biegel has broken his foot in a calendar year. The Packers picked Biegel in the fourth round of last month’s NFL Draft out of the University of Wisconsin. Last year Biegel recorded 44 tackles, six for a loss, four sacks, one pass defense and one forced fumble fro the Badgers.

The Los Angeles Chargers have cut offensive guard Orlando Franklin. The move saves the Chargers $2.8 million in salary cap space, but comes with $4.8 million in dead money. The Chargers signed Franklin to a five-year, $36.5 million contract in 2015. Franklin is the third starting offensive lineman Los Angeles has parted ways with this season. They previously cut King Dunlap and D.J. Fluker.

The Arizona Cardinals released linebacker Daryl Washington right before the weekend hit, ending any speculation that he had some kind of future with the team. Washington has been suspended since the 2014 season for repeatedly violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He was drafted in the second round out of TCU in 2010. His last season (2013) was his best, recording 75 tackles with 10 passes defended, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and three sacks.
Speaking of the Cardinals, former Arizona wide receiver Michael Floyd will get the chance to continue his NFL career after signing with the Minnesota Vikings last week. The Cardinals cut Floyd after a DUI last December. He ended up with the New England Patriots and earned a Super Bowl ring sitting on the bench. The contract with the Vikings could be worth as much as $6 million this season with incentives.
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith has pledged that he will be completely ready to play when the team takes the field against the New York Giants in the season-opening game. Smith informed reporters that the injured nerve in his knee has “maximum potential” to make progress, according to his doctor. The Cowboys took Smith in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Before his injury, the former Notre Dame linebacker was projected as a Top 10 pick.
