Stephen Curry becomes the second NBA player to host the ESPYs as the Warriors win big

NHL Finals MVP On Wednesday, Stephen Curry co-hosted The ESPYS with WNBA stars Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith to highlight the situation of Brittney Griner, who is currently being held in custody.

In February, Griner was detained in Russia when customs officers allegedly discovered cannabis oil-filled vape cartridges in her baggage. If found guilty of the drug transportation allegations, she may spend up to 10 years in jail.

“It has been 153 nights since BG was unfairly held hundreds of miles from her home, her family, her friends, and her team”, said Diggins-Smith. “Even though we are aware that this is not nearly enough to bring her home, we have kept her in our hearts and minds during that period.”

Curry took notice of the efforts being made to get Griner free. Cherelle Griner, Griner’s wife, who was in attendance at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, cheered them on. Curry received a prize for his record-breaking achievement in the competition as well.
