Talk ‘n’ Shoot MMA Podcast: Metamoris 6 Grappling Preview

This Saturday in Los Angeles, the all-Grappling Metamoris 6 event goes down.  The event features a heavyweight super fight between Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu and former UFC Champion Josh Barnett.

For this event, the five announced fights have had lines up at BetDSI for awhile now, and the “secret fight” will likely get a line up on the day of the show as well.  In that contest, long-time grappling competitor Jeff Monson will be facing an unnamed opponent.  Monson is now 44 years old and considered an elder statesman in the grappling game.  The Metamoris group is said to have held a qualification tourney to determine Monson’s opponent and the invitees were selected from among the best young up and coming grapplers out there.

MMA veterans Chael Sonnen and Renato “Babalu” Sobral meet under Metamoris rules in a re-match of an MMA match from roughly ten years ago.  “Babalu” won that original meeting using a triangle choke, but can he do it again?  Another UFC fighter who is still under cotnract with Zuffa but is allowed to participate in the Metamoris series is Joe Lauzon, who gets the tall order of facing grappling ace Dillon Danis.

Grappling ace Keenan Cornelius takes on old school fighter Alexander Ribeiro.  Riberio started his grapplig career at the ADCC’s as a teeneager, and now he is 34 years old facing the 22 year old ‘young gun” in Cornelius.

The entire event is available via a live stream on Metamoris’ website.  Special guest and American Top Team black belt Carlos Diaz joins the podcast this week to review the Metamoris 6 event.
