DeflateGate Fallout: Sportsbooks Suspend Patriots Betting Action

DeflateGate dominates the news Wednesday.

According to The Sporting News multiple Las Vegas sports books have completely removed the NFL season opening game between the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers from their boards over Tom Brady’s implication in the DeflateGate report released Wednesday.

Books that have kept the game up have moved the point spread, with some going from Pats -6 down to Pats -3.5 to even a pick ’em. The presumption is that Brady will be suspended at least at the beginning of the season. Some books have even halted all Futures betting until Brady’s punishment is levied by the league.

Brady’s dad says he was framed

Tom Brady Sr. isn’t buying the findings from the Wells report involving DeflateGate. In fact, he told USA Today that he believes his son has been “framed.”

“The league had to cover themselves,” Brady Sr. told the newspaper. “The reality is they had no conclusive evidence. This was Framegate right from the beginning.”

For some reason, I don’t feel like that will catch on.

“I don’t have any doubt about my son’s integrity, not one bit,” Brady Sr. is quoted as saying in defiance of reality and all evidence to the contrary. “In this country, you’re innocent until proven guilty. It just seems Tommy is now guilty until proven innocent. This thing is so convoluted. …They say that possibly, possibly, he was aware of this. The reality is if you can’t prove he did it, then he’s innocent, and lay off him. That’s the bottom line.”

Brady Sr. offers no suggestion over who ultimately would benefit from framing his son when the NFL had his team planned as its spotlight game to open the season in prime time on Thursday, Sep. 10, or all the promos and merchandise they’ve sold with his face and number on it.

Gronkowski picks the wrong day to be charitable

New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski thought he’d pick up some good karma and help out some needy children at the Rodman Ride For Kids fundraising event. Instead, he got to become the public face of the Patriots after the Ted Wells DeflateGate report dropped Wednesday.

What should have been an easy photo opportunity has turned into a circus, according to reporters at the event.

One reporter doesn’t expect Gronkowski to answer questions and he’s probably right, since Gronkowski has not been afraid to leave an interview when he’s displeased it the line of questioning.
