The Voice — It’s Battle Time! It’s a Steal!

The Voice

It’s finally here — it’s battle time on NBC’s The Voice! Joining the coaches for contestant training is Shawn Mendes, Julia Michaels, Hailee Steinfeld, and Trace Adkins. Just know that they will compete against each other and the coach will only choose one to continue. They are narrowing down their teams.

I don’t think Kelly is going to stay in her seat this week. Most importantly, don’t forget we have steals coming!

The first artist, singing telegram artist Jamai from Team Alicia, finds out that he’s being paired against Sharane Calister from Des Moines, Iowa. Sharane was the foster care child who was separated from her twin sister. Sharane also calls the battle against Jamai as a “run battle.” With Shawn Mendes as their coach, the duo blows the roof off the place, according to Alicia.

Jamai and Sharane are power vs. power. I really didn’t understand Sharane’s words at first, but they are both belting it out now. In my opinion, I actually think Jamai is outsinging Sharane so far. It’s a great way to open the battle rounds! Adam calls it a dead heat. Alicia is amazed at both of them but chooses Sharane as the winner of the battle.

The next superstar coach is Hailee Steinfeld and she’s coaching Team Kelly’s Brynn Cartelli, from Longmeadow, Massachusetts to go against Dylan Hartigan from Wyckoff, New Jersey. Kelly says she wants a “swampy” edgy vibe of Taylor Swift’s song “Ready for It.” Brynn is really good and I think she’s outshining Dylan, but I like their vibe together. Well, let these games begin! Kelly chooses Brynn as the winner of this round. Brynn is going to be hard to beat in this competition.

Wait! Blake steals Dylan!

Up next on The Voice is Blake’s team and Trace Adkins shows up for coaching. Competing first is Jesslee, from Stuart, Florida going against Kyla Jade from Topeka, Kansas. Wow, this will be an interesting duo because they are both powerhouses and will bring it. “One Last Time,” by Ariana Grande is what they will be singing. Blake wants Kyla to step out from being the ‘background singer’ and push it. I love Jesslee’s voice, but I think that Blake is going to go with Kyla. Blake chooses Kyla as the winner of the battle. Am I wrong?

Next up is Team Adam and Rayshun Lamarr from Fort Washington, Maryland going against Tish — if you remember Rayshun was diagnosed with lymphoma and lost his voice. This is really going to be a challenge for Rayshun because of Tish Haynes Keyes, from St. Louis, Missouri. Julia Michaels is their advisor. “Sweet Thing” is their song and I think Tish has the upper hand in this match-up. What a great performance. Adam chooses Rayshun. Wow. That was a blindside. Kelly steals Tish!

Next up on The Voice is Team Alicia. It’s time for Shana Halligan of Los Angeles, California to face Christiana Danielle of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Christiana reminds me of Brandy. Shawn Mendez is ready to coach them. “Use Somebody” is their song and they sound so different from each other, so it will be interesting to see how this goes. Not my favorite pairing of the night, but it sounds good. Shana has to get out of the habit of wanting to touch her hair — it drove me nuts. But it was an interesting performance and it’s a mix of decisions from the other judges, but Alicia chooses Christiana.

The final pairing of the night is Team Kelly and Jackie Foster from Boston, Massachusetts is going against D.R. King from Harlem, New York, singing “Sign of the Times.” The harmony between them is fantastic. This is going to be a hard decision for Kelly. Both sound amazing. Alicia calls it her favorite battle of the day. Kelly chooses D.R. as the winner of the battle.

Holy Smokes Blake, Alicia and Adam all want to steal Jackie! She chooses Adam!

Until tomorrow!
