Wednesday Boxing Odds

Wednesday Boxing Odds – The sport books have odds up for boxing on Wednesday from Japan and Australia.

In Australia (13-0-1) Jeff Horn goes for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental title and defends his IBF Inter-Continental title in a welterweight bout with veteran Randall Bailey (46-8). Bailey is 41 years old, but his nickname “The knock-out king” says it all. Bailey has 39 stops in his career, and he went 2-0 in 2015, adding two more knock outs to his resume. Randall is also a former 2 weight class world champion, having won the WBO 140-lb title in May of 1999 and more recently holding the IBF world title at 147 pounds in 2012. Horn has a long amateur background that ended with a 2012 Olympic appearance and he is being brought along well by his management. Bailey is by far his toughest test to date.

Heading over to Japan, “Super World” super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama (24-0-1) is back to defend his title against Panama’s Jezreel Corrales (19-1). Uchiyama is now 36 years old and after his last fight this past New Year’s Eve, there was talk that he would take a fight outside of Japan for the first time in his career. Promoter Bob Arum was said to be seeking a showdown with Nicholas Walters but that never materialized. Uchiyama fights twice a year, and he is unlikely to give up his traditional December 31st fight since he has fought on that date 5 years running now in Tokyo. This looks like another year where Uchiyama remains in Japan and avoids the challenges on the world scene, and he is turning 37 in November.

Kohei Kono (31-8-1) will defend his WBA Super Flyweight belt as a huge favorite over Thailand’s Inthanon Sithchamuang (28-7-1). Kono is the current darling of the Japanese scene, as the hard working veteran made good and won a world title. His story really gets interesting as he traveled to Chicago to face Japanese superstar Koki Kameda (33-1), a fighter who had left Japan to join the Premier Boxing Champions stable in the United States. That fight saw Kono battle Kameda in an emotional fight that went to Kono via UD. Here, Kono is not expecting much of a challenge.
