A long Major League Baseball season includes plenty of comings and goings, both because of injury and suspension. That’s the case Tuesday, as the Reds’ Yasiel Puig and the Pirates’ Chris Archer both face suspensions for their roles in Sunday’s brawl. Meanwhile, the Red Sox get Dustin Pedroia back from injury, but the Cubs are going to lose Jon Lester to the Injured List. The news is even worse for Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger.

Yasiel Puig, who charged into the entire Pirates team during the fracas, was suspended two games. Chris Archer, who started things by throwing behind the Reds’ Derek Dietrich, was suspended five games. Reds manager David Bell got one game. Only Archer is appealing.

Former AL MVP Dustin Pedroia is back from the injured list, just in time for the Red Sox’s home opener against the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

That Red Sox-Blue Jays game is significant for other reasons … when Boston’s Alex Cora and Toronto’s Charlie Montoyo lead their teams onto the field, it will be the first matchup of Puerto Rican managers in MLB history.

Jon Lester left his start against the Braves early on Monday with a hamstring strain. Turns out it’s bad enough to keep him out for a while…

The injury situation is even worse for the Indians’ Mike Clevinger, who was off to a very strong start this season but is now out six to eight weeks.
