Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington headline the UFC 224 card in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, for the women’s bantamweight strap.   Also on the main card Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will battle Kelvin Gastelum and we’ll also see a legacy matchup between Vitor Belfort and Lyoto Machida. Most importantly, this is a card that hasn’t been torn apart by injuries, suspensions, or unexpected bus violence.

Raquel Pennington (+475)

Don’t write Raquel Pennington off because of the long odds she faces for this UFC 224 fight. We’ve seen a lot of upsets in the women’s division. That being said, she does have a real uphill battle here. Pennington has won four straight fights since a split-decision loss to Holly Holm way back at UFC 184. Most of Pennington’s losses were a long time ago, but so was her last fight. Pennington last fought against Miesha Tate on November 12, 2016, so she has to shake off about 18 months of cage rust for this one. She did fight in Honolulu once, but this is her first fight outside of the United States.

Amanda Nunes (-650)

It comes against Brazilian bantamweight Amanda Nunes. Nunes took the title from Miesha Tate in the first round of UFC 200 and has two successful defenses, including one over Ronda Rousey. Nunes beat challenger Valentina Shevchenko via split-decision back at UFC 215, which is the last time she fought. That was her second win over Shevchenko. Nunes had some problems in Edmonton with that fight, as it was very close throughout and some believe that Shevchenko, who has gone the distance with Nunes twice, deserves a third shot. It’s be interesting to see if Pennington can do what no female fighter has done  since Cat Zingano .

Pick: Amanda Nunes

Don’t  be surprised if this isn’t a runaway. Pennington has been away for a little while, but she is a much better fighter now than she was early in her career. She may be worth a gamble as a huge underdog, but Nunes will more likely than not, win this headline UFC 224 fight.
