Bellew vs Haye 2 – London Donnybrook Expected

Bellew vs Haye 2

Bellew vs Haye 2 – British heavyweights Tony Bellew and David Haye meet for the second time this Saturday in London. The pair met for the first time back in March of 2017 and that fight saw Bellew stop Haye in the 10th round.

That fight saw Haye (28-3) enter a favorite and the rhetoric from Bellew (29-2-1) was steady in the build-up. Haye was mounting a comeback after almost five years away from the sport while Bellew had been in the gym putting in the work.

Bellew first contended for a world title at light heavyweight and he is a world champion at cruiserweight right now. After Haye went 2-0 in his “comeback” against weak opposition, Bellew called Haye out. Once they got in the ring, the fight pretty much went the way Bellew called it. Haye would be off in his timing and he would blow his wad early. Bellew used his bag of ringcraft to get him through a few tough spots, but he was never really threatened in the fight.

Haye hurt his achilles tendon in round six, and he was definitely saved by the referee in the last fight. Once again, Haye is there saying all the right things. He has changed trainers and he knows that another loss to Bellew would signal a death knell to his career. Haye appears to have shed a few pounds as he claims to have been working on his conditioning.

Heading into fight week, Haye told the media he plans to knock out Bellew in six. Is this a confident Haye who is prepared to take Bellew out and move on with his career, or is there a mixed message? What if Haye is there again in round seven and beyond?

Bellew seems a little irked in the build-up to this one, as if he is upset he is being asked to dispatch Haye again. The odds once again favor Haye. All the talk is about what a win would bring Haye, and that is big money fights with the l likes of Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury. Haye would be looking at taking home huge paydays if he can get by Bellew and make those fights happen.

At the end of the day, the script is much the same for this one as Bellew is getting little respect. The question is will Haye come with a different ending this time around.

The fight is set to air on AWE in the United States and on the SKY Box Office service in the U.K. Check your local listings for start times. Promoter Eddie Hearn has put together a ten fight boxing card that sees several of the support bouts getting lines at the sports books. Four of the five fights posted have more or less “competitive lines” which is to say just one fight has a four figure line.
