Braekhus vs Reis Odds For Saturday

Braekhus vs Reis Odds

Braekhus vs Reis Odds For Saturday – This Saturday night on HBO, Cecilia Braekhus and Kali Reis grab boxing’s centerstage for the ladies side if the sport. Braekhus (32-0) is the #1 pound for pound fighter on the ladies side and has been for years, and this match marks her American debut. She holds the unified world titles at 147 pounds and her arrival on US soil has been in the works for the last half decade.

Not a lot is known about women’s boxing and the odds makers have taken Braekhus’ reputation as the female Floyd Mayweather Jr to heart if you look at the posted lines. You will notice that their is no over/under posted as of yet. One thing is almost for certain, the highly technical Braekhus is unlikely to stop her opponent come Saturday. Braekhus scored a fast knock out in her most recent outing when she stopped Mikaela Lauren in the 6th round of their meeting last October, but ‘The First Lady” is not known for her stopping power.

The odds are downright disrespectful to Reis (13-6-1) and there may be some appeal to her in the underdog spot. Do not let her record fool you, Reis has been around the world and fought the best, and she is a former world champion in her own right.

Reis has been fighting on the road her entire career as she has disputed world championships in New Zealand, Costa Rica and Germany. In April of 2016 she defeated Maricela Cornejo in Auckland to win the WBC’s world middleweight title.

Reis comes from Rhode Island and her camp has also produced top contender Demetrious Andrade in recent years. Combine that with her competition level against the likes of Christina Hammer, Hanna Gabriels and Mikaela Lauren and it can be said that Reis is carrying every bit the quality experience that Braekhus has.

Also not to be discounted is Reis’ competing at middleweight. This could be the key to the whole fight. If Reis has been fighting at middleweight for the opportunities, then a drop back to welterweight may suit her. The issue for Reis will be if the return to the lower weight class is something that affects her come fight time. Will she be bigger and stronger or will she feel the drain on her reserves in the later rounds?

The odds makers are not giving Reis a chance. Braekhus has rarely been tested in her pro career and she enters this fight at 36 years old. Perhaps in the end it is Reis’ five year advantage in youth that proves to be Reis’ chance. If Braekhus can beat Reis, a fighter who is younger, bigger and stronger with a comparable resume at the upper level, “The First Lady” will have sent a message that she is ready for world recognition.

Reis may not be the main stream face that Braekhus projects to be, but she is a true profesional who has worked for this her whole life. Reis is of American-Indian descent and you can look for some type of inspired ring entrance from her on Saturday.

In June HBO rival Showtime will air Hanna Gabriels (18-1) vs American phenom Claressa Shields (5-0) as the top women in the world are jockeying for position on American television.
