Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit #2 Preview

IndyCar Lines: Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay is one of the favorites to win the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit. The first race will be held on Saturday while the second race is in Sunday. Both races will be shown on ABC television. Let’s take a look at the second race and IndyCar picks.

The Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans is an interesting showcase of IndyCar in Detroit. The racing is held at Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. IndyCar racing started at Belle Isle in 1989 and went until 2001 but then didn’t resume until 2007 when it went for two years and then it didn’t come back until 2012. Racing in Detroit has been big for Roger Penske as he lobbied hard to bring it back to Detroit in 2012.

Top Contenders

You have to start when handicapping the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit races with Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay. He won an exciting Indy 500 last week as he just barely beat Helio Castroneves. With that win, Hunter-Reay took over the lead in the IndyCar Standings. Will Power is now second, 40 points behind with Castroneves in third, 54 points back. None of the top three has ever won in Detroit though. Simon Pagenaud is fourth in the standings and he won one of the duals last year.

Race Notes

Ryan Briscoe really likes the new layout of the races at Belle Isle. “I wasn’t a huge fan of the old layout,” Briscoe said, “I thought it was very Mickey Mouse through the (Turns) 3-4-5-6-7 section. It was just sort of follow the leader. Now it’s awesome. You’ve got a couple of passing opportunities.”

That second passing chance has also changed the way that the drivers approach the race. The new layout for the racing at Belle Isle came about in 2013.

IndyCar Picks

The Chevrolet Indy Duals could be where Will Power gets back to the top of the IndyCar standings. I will take him to win this second dual at IndyCar odds of about 6-1.
