Lucha Underground S1E16 Recap: Predator vs. Prey

Photo from El Rey Network

On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, there were significant moments in the stories of luchadores old and new. We saw the development of the relationship between Mil Muertes and Catrina, with Catrina pairing herself up with Fenix after normally being the valet for Mil Muertes. Ivelisse fought Son of Havoc’s battle for him, and picked up a victory over Angélico, which was something that Son of Havoc could not do in previous weeks. The debuting Texano made a statement by defeating Super Fly, but Texano’s rival, Alberto El Patron, attacked him after the match.

The two most important moments in the episode, however, were the return of Big Ryck, and the departure of Chavo Guerrero. The Crew (Bael, Cortez Castro, and Mr. Cisco) turned on Big Ryck several weeks ago, even branding him with a lit cigar. Big Ryck returned to The Temple during a 6-man tag team match involving The Crew, and Sexy Star ended up picking up the victory for her team. As for Chavo Guerrero, he had had enough of what was going on in Lucha Underground, and told owner and promoter Dario Cueto that he was quitting.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Aerostar vs. Drago
A few weeks ago on Lucha Underground, Drago and Aerostar had a classic matchup, with Drago coming out on top. Tonight, Aerostar looks to make up for his loss with a victory here tonight.

After hitting a sunset flip powerbomb to the outside of the ring, Aerostar rolls Drago into the ring and hits him with a springboard splash for the win. Winner: Aerostar

After the match, the two competitors shake hands in respect, and are interrupted by Dario Cueto. Cueto announces that Aerostar and Drago will have a Best of 5 series, including the matches they have already had, and the winner of the series will have one of Cueto’s “unique opportunities.”

Cage vs. Prince Puma
Over the last few weeks, Cage has taken every opportunity available to him to show that he deserves to be the Lucha Underground Champion. Cage has taken out Prince Puma, as well as his mentor, Konnan. Cage also tore the Lucha Underground Championship apart, as a sign that it means nothing if its not his.

Dario Cueto gave Cage a “unique opportunity,” facing Prince Puma tonight. If Cage can defeat the current Lucha Underground Champion in a non-title bout tonight, he will earn a championship opportunity in the future.

During the match, Cage goes for the Brock Lock and Konnan comes down to the ring to encourage Prince Puma to keep going in the match.

After hitting a midified Gory Special, Cage just keeps punching a downed Prince Puma, causing Konnan to literally throw in the towel for Prince Puma. Winner (via Konnan throwing in the towel): Cage

Backstage Segment
Konnan approches an angry Prince Puma, and tells him that war is about deception. Konnan threw in the towel so him and Prince Puma can execute their “plan.”

We now see Sexy Star at Dario Cueto’s office. She complains about men constantly coming to her aid during her matches, and she wants revenge on The Crew for sending her Mascarita Sagrada and Pimpinela Escarlata to the hospital. Cueto tells Sexy Star that she will face Big Ryck next week, and the winner of that match will take on The Crew.

Vinny Massaro vs. Pentagon Jr.
Well, this won’t bode well for Massaro. Massaro is making his Lucha Underground debut tonight against the man who has broken the arm of his last two opponents to please his “master.” This match is also dedicated to his master.

After the “Cero Miedo” taunt, Pentagon Jr. hits Masaro with a modified Michinoku Driver for the win. Winner: Pentagon Jr.

After the match, Pentagon Jr. powerbombs Massaro through a table, and breaks his arm just like he did to Famous B and Ricky Mandel.

Johnny Mundo vs. King Cuerno
For the last few weeks, King Cuerno has been targeting Johnny Mundo as his new “prey,” starting during a match between Johnny Mundo and Cage a few weeks ago. There’s no love lost between these two, and this match is going to be more of a fight than a wrestling match.

While fighting outside the ring, Cuerno and Mundo show that they don’t care about match rules and get a double count-out, continuing the fight after the match. Result (via double count-out): Draw

After the match, they fight all the way to the top of the stands in an all-out brawl. After they both get slammed through a steel fence, this episode of Lucha Underground comes to a close.
