Indiana Hoosiers at Ohio State Buckeyes Betting Preview

Ohio State is heavily favored in this one and is currently giving up 25 points to Indiana. Vegas has placed the over/under (O/U) at 62.5 points, and it appears that there will probably be some good live betting opportunities in this matchup.

The opening line was -26 while the total has yet to move since being initially posted at 62.5.

Each of these teams has posted a good return this year as the Hoosiers have gained 3.0 units and the Buckeyes are ahead 2.0 units.

The Hoosiers are 4-1 straight up (SU), including 1-1 SU against Big 10 opponents. The Buckeyes are 5-0 SU overall and 2-0 SU in conference play.

The Hoosiers just got a 24-17 victory over Rutgers last week. Peyton Ramsey completed 27 passes for 288 yards, as well as one score and a pick. Stevie Scott (58 rushing yards on 18 attempts, one TD) and the signal-caller Ramsey (51 yards on 10 carries, one TD) spearheaded the ground attack. J-Shun Harris II (seven receptions, 54 yards, one TD) and Ty Fryfogle (five catches, 70 yards) shared the receiving duties in the win.

Ohio State is coming off of a 27-26 win over Penn State. Dwayne Haskins completed 22-of-39 passes for 270 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. J.K. Dobbins (57 rushing yards on 17 attempts, one TD) and Mike Weber (51 yards on nine carries) spearheaded the running game while Parris Campbell (seven receptions, 60 yards) and K.J. Hill (six catches, 59 yards, one TD) led the pass-catching attack in the win.

In terms of offensive play-calling, each squad has a remarkably similar (54-46) run-pass ratio on the season. The Hoosiers have produced 179 rush yards per game (including 96 per game against Big Ten opponents) and have seven scores on the ground this year. The Buckeyes are putting up 210 rush yards per game (172 in conference) and have 11 total rushing TDs.

If 2018 results are any indication, then it’s looking like the Buckeyes should own the edge in all aspects of the ground game. Their backfield has logged 5.0 yards per carry while their defense is allowing 4.0 yards per rush attempt to opponents. The Hoosiers have registered 4.3 yards per carry while allowing a YPC of 4.4 to opponents.

The Hoosiers offense has averaged 233 yards through the air overall (280 per game versus conference opposition) and has nine passing scores so far. The Buckeyes have put up a superb 347 pass yards per game (312.0 in the Big 10) and have 20 total pass TDs.

Indiana appears to have an edge when it comes to limiting the pass. The team has allowed opponents to run for an average of 158 yards and pass for 164 yards per game. The Ohio State defense has given up 202.2 yards per game to opposing passers and 154.8 yards per game to opposing runners. The Hoosiers are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of just 4.24 to opposing QBs, while the Buckeyes have given up a 4.93 ANY/A.

Offensively, Ramsey is up to 767 passing yards this year, and has connected on 72 percent of his 116 attempts with six passing scores and three interceptions. He has a 6.24 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 5.00 over the last two outings.

For the home team, Dwayne Haskins has connected on 88-of-130 passes for 1,160 yards, 14 TDs and two INTs. Haskins’ ANY/A sits at 10.07 for the season and 10.55 over his past two outings.

When these two squads met a year ago, Ohio State knocked Indiana off by four touchdowns 49-21.
