Per the report, forward OG Anunoby left the closing minutes of the Knicks’ 108-102 Game 2 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers after appearing to suffer a leg problem.
The report says Anunoby walked off the court gingerly after a dunk attempt and signaled to the bench to come out following a Mikal Bridges jumper that put the Knicks up 103-99 with 2:56 remaining.
Knicks coach Mike Brown deferred to a team spokesman and the team did not provide details on the specific injury or whether testing was underway, the report says. Brown said he saw Anunoby hopping but added he had not been given further information and had not spoken to anyone about the situation, per the report.
Anunoby finished the game with 24 points, five rebounds, four steals and a block in 37 minutes as the Knicks took a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals, the report says. The report notes he entered the series as the team’s second-leading playoff scorer behind Jalen Brunson and as the club’s most efficient postseason shooter, converting 64% from the field and nearly 60% from distance on almost five attempts per game.
Brunson told reporters he did not have much information and would address the matter later, the report says. Karl-Anthony Towns said the team would regroup the next day to assess the situation, and Bridges summed up the club’s short-term outlook by saying the roster will move forward with the next available player, per the report.
The report also recounts Anunoby’s recent history of a left hamstring strain in the 2024 Eastern Conference semifinals against the Indiana Pacers that sidelined him for Games 3-6 and limited him to five minutes in Game 7 when the Knicks lost. The report says any absence now would be a significant loss for a team playing at a high level at this stage of the postseason.
