Padres, Rockies Set Scoring Mark, Dodgers Top Cubs and More

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Runs come in bunches at Coors Field. That was especially true this weekend, when the Padres and Rockies got together and split four games that saw the teams score a combined 92 runs, a new Major League record for one series. Speaking of fireworks, Russell Martin provided the late ones on Sunday, giving the Dodgers a dramatic series win over the Cubs in a possible playoff preview. Elsewhere, the Mets lost Noah Syndergaard to the injured list on the same day Robinson Cano returned, Justin Upton is back for the Angels, and the College World Series is off to a dramatic start.

The Rockies scored 48 runs in four games and settled for a split, twice blowing leads of three runs or more in the ninth inning. Ouch.

The Dodgers-Cubs season series finale featured a game-tying home run from Cody Bellinger, an L.A. rally to break a tie in the eighth and a dramatic finish in the ninth. Pretty good stuff.

Just what the struggling Mets needed to (not) hear: Their ace strained his hamstring and will miss at least a couple of starts.

Justin Upton should return from injury and make his season debut on Monday for the Angels.

An error allowed the inning to continue, and Mississippi State capped a dramatic opening weekend at the College World Series with a four-run rally in the ninth to walk off Auburn. Other first-game winners: Michigan, Florida State and Vanderbilt.
