The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder/first baseman Ryan O’Hearn on the 10-day injured list and reinstated outfielder Jake Mangum, the report says. O’Hearn was sidelined with a strained right quadriceps, and Mangum was activated from the injured list on Sunday, per the report.
O’Hearn sustained the injury while playing first base in a loss to Philadelphia, according to the report. The club says he collided with batter Bryson Stott while attempting to catch a popup in the third inning of that game.
Signed as a free agent during the offseason, O’Hearn has delivered a .291 batting average with seven home runs in 43 games, the report says. Those numbers reflected his offensive contribution prior to the quad strain that sent him to the injured list.
Mangum had been out since May 6 with a strained left hamstring, the report notes. He was acquired from Tampa Bay in an offseason trade and entered the season as part of the Pirates’ outfield depth.
Since joining the Pirates, Mangum has a .260 batting average and five stolen bases in 30 games, per the report. His activation returns an experienced outfield option to the roster while O’Hearn recovers from the quadriceps issue.
