Christian Pulisic recorded a goal and an assist in the first half and Folarin Balogun supplied the eventual game-winner in the second as the U.S. men’s national team defeated Senegal 3-2 Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to the match report.
Pulisic set up Sergiño Dest’s early opener and then scored to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead. Sadio Mané scored on both sides of halftime, with the second coming in what the report described as a chaotic second half.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino was graded a 7 out of 10. The match report said the majority of the decisions made by Pochettino and his staff worked, while noting there remain questions to be answered.
Goalkeeper Matt Turner was given a 5. The report noted Turner was largely untested until the final 15 minutes, came out to stop Mané without conceding a foul and made a couple of saves before Mané reduced the deficit.
On the back line, Antonee Robinson received a 7 for his connection with Pulisic on the left and his ability to shift the attack, despite one turnover. Tim Ream was graded a 3 after a difficult day that included errant passes and positional lapses. Mark McKenzie and Alex Freeman each earned 5s, with McKenzie praised for consistency and Freeman involved in the buildup to a goal.
Sergiño Dest was rated 7 for his opening goal and wing play. Midfielders Sebastian Berhalter and Tyler Adams were both graded 5, with Berhalter described as uneven and Adams noted for moving possession and supporting the press. The friendly was the first of two for the U.S.; the Americans will face Germany on Saturday, according to the report.
