The 2022 Big West regular season and conference tournament winners, the UC Riverside Highlanders, will take on Portland this Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament. ESPN+ will stream the game, which begins at 7 PM (Pacific Time) at Merlo Field in Portland.

The Highlanders will meet eighth-seeded Oregon State in Corvallis if they prevail. With a 1-0 victory over the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in front of a packed house at the UC Riverside Soccer Stadium, UCR qualified for the NCAA Tournament. On Senior Night, UC Riverside defeated the Gauchos 4-1 at home to claim the Big West regular season championship.

The Highlanders’ historic campaign has been led by Tim Cupello, the Big West Coach of the Year. Their regular season championship was the first in program history, and a record eight players were chosen for the All-Big West team.
