The World Series of Fighting MMA promotion is running their 12th event on August 9th in Las Vegas with a main event in the Lightweight division featuring Luis Palomino taking on Luis Gonzalez. None of the fights on the card are up at the sport books yet, but look for close odds on the main event. The rest of the card features several recognizable names, including Ronny Markes, Elvis Mutapcic and Alexis Vila, but is short on the bigger stars in te WSOF and has no title fights.
Palomino is 33 years old and a long time veteran of the sport. In his last outing, which was his WSOF debut, he took out the even more tested Jorge Patino, in a match pitting ‘The Baboon’ against ‘Macaco’.
Lewis Gonzalez is no monkey however. At 26 year old, the young prospect is a perfect 9-0 in MMA and in his last outing he defeated Antonio McKee in what was a big step up in competition for him. Since then, he was set to fight Justin Gaerthje for the WSOF Lightweight title, but Gonzalez Suffered an injury and missed his shot which was scheduled for WSOF 8.
The WSOF organization is banking ob Gonzalez coming through this match with a win so that they can re-make the bout that was cancelled previously. Palomino will do what he can to thwart those plans, and a big puncher like him can be dangerous throughout a fight, but the matchmakers are expecting him to lose. palomino will look to avoid the takedowns, but that is a tall order, because when he sets his mind to it, Gonzalez has gotten people down. Palomino needs to make it a scrap and he needs to extend the fight and stay active the whole time. Gonzalez should be forced to handle an onslaught of strikes that have a cumulative effect and take the starch out of Gonzalez.
Look for a tight match when the lines are up, with the most likely favorite being Gonzalez based on his potential and his undefeated record. Palomino is the right choice to make it exciting, but in the end, the WSOF is probably going to get the match that they want later on this year, and that is Lewis Gonzalez vs Justin Gaethje.
