Roman Reigns Challenges Seth Rollins At WWE’s Payback

The WWE’s “Payback” pay-per-view is set to air on the WWE Network on May 17, and the card is headlined by the “Fatal Four Way” match for the WWE Heavyweight title that will pit champion Seth Rollins against Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Randy Orton with the title up for grabs.

Thugh the WWE is scripted matches, the sportbooks do take action for their big PPVs as the company is masterful at concealing their story lines and throwing in plot twists.  Check back later this week for lines on the matches.  For now, here is a breakdown of the main event, which has all the looks of unpredictability of your usual WWE PPV.

A little while back, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were teammates in a group called “The Shield”.   After a very successful run he group splintered and all three men have enjoyed success as individual performers since.  Rollins has turned into the bad guy, and connived his way into holding the WWE world title.   He has been feuding with veteran Randy Orton, and Orton is also involved in this match, though he is the least likely of the three men to walk out with the title next weekend.

Though Rollins has the belt, it was Reigns who appeared to be being groomed by the WWE for a major push, but having Rollins steal the belt from him gives them an intrguing plot twist.  The WWE recently inserted Ambrose into the proceedings, as Ambrose scored a surprise pin over Rollins on TV to get in the fight.   Having Ambrose win the belt would be a good way to further build up the tension around Roman Reigns, who for the second time would be denied the title by a former teammate.  Ambrose’s title tenure would likely be short, but Reigns suffering another loss of that nature would only build up a future win even more.  Or, the snake in the grass that is Rollins could have things fall his way and he could emerge with the belt still in his hands.
