The NFL offseason is paused until training camps open in late July, but NFL Nation reporters tracked how the 2026 first-round class performed in offseason work. Early impressions during OTAs and minicamps have offered a first look at several top selections.
Las Vegas quarterback Fernando Mendoza has practiced mostly with the Raiders’ second and third units as he adjusts to the NFL, and has drawn praise for his work ethic and leadership, according to Ryan McFadden. Mendoza has shown an ability to find open targets but has had growing pains, particularly with under-center footwork. With veteran Kirk Cousins on the roster, the Raiders do not feel compelled to rush him, McFadden reported.
New York Jets edge rusher David Bailey displayed notable first-step quickness in the spring, though Rich Cimini wrote he still needs to improve his run defense and add power to his pass rush. Cimini quoted left tackle Olu Fashanu saying, “He’s meant to be an edge rusher.”
The Arizona Cardinals have kept running back Jeremiyah Love limited — coach Mike LaFleur noted he has been practicing in shorts — but teammates have praised his ability, Josh Weinfuss reported. Marvin Harrison Jr. compared Love to a “sweet new car,” linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. said “he got game” and called him “patient,” and tight end Trey McBride called him “a stud.”
Tennessee rookie receiver Carnell Tate impressed with polished route running and reliable hands, reaching the end zone three times in public OTAs, Turron Davenport wrote. Cornerback Alontae Taylor described Tate as “polished” and predicted he will be exciting to watch on Sundays.
Giants pick Arvell Reese has stood out physically at inside linebacker, measuring 6-foot-4 and 241 pounds, and showed coverage ability that surprised teammates and veterans, Jordan Raanan reported. Reese also handled the mental aspects of the spring well. In Kansas City, cornerback Mansoor Delane missed mandatory minicamp with a shoulder issue but was effective in voluntary sessions and is projected to be a starter, Nate Taylor wrote, citing coach Steve Spagnuolo’s comment that Delane was viewed as the top corner in the class.
Washington linebacker Sonny Styles displayed closing speed and preparation while wearing the green dot, John Keim reported, and linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. praised his combination of size, speed, strength and intelligence. The New Orleans Saints have been cautious with wide receiver Jordyn Tyson after he spent the lead-up to April’s draft rehabbing, NFL Nation reported.
