The sixteenth season of American Idol premiered on March 11, 2018, on ABC tv. Although this is the sixteenth overall season, it is the first season of American Idol to air on ABC, and is considered season 1 of the revival series. Ryan Seacrest continues his role as the show’s host, while Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie joined as judges. The revival of American Idol has been in talks for over a year with a dispute derailing it’s return to Fox or NBC, and finally ABC acquired the rights to the show. Auditions started in August of last year for this season’s revival. The first show aired in March and up to this point the episodes have covered the initial audition tour, a three round audition know as Hollywood Week, The Showcase Round which aired on April 2, and the Top 24, who then competed to get into the Top 14 in the first two weeks of April.
So we now have 14 competitors, who will be selected down to the Top 10, Top 7, Top 5, and then the finale, over the next five weeks.
