The Chicago Bears waived defensive back Zah Frazier on Thursday, the team announced. Frazier was a fifth-round pick in 2025 who did not play during his rookie season after being placed on the non-football injury list for a personal reason, the report says.
Frazier participated in rookie minicamp last May but was later moved to the non-football injury list because of a situation described as “personal” that sidelined him for the entire year, the report says. Bears general manager Ryan Poles addressed the matter in August 2025, saying the issue predated Frazier’s arrival and crediting staff work in identifying the underlying cause.
During the 2025 season, Frazier’s participation with the team was limited to classroom and weight room work, per the report. He had not taken part in on-field games or practices for the Bears during that period.
The report says Frazier had been expected to compete for a spot on Chicago’s 53-man roster alongside players such as Malik Muhammad, a Texas cornerback selected in the fourth round of the NFL draft last month. The report adds that Frazier would have been eligible to participate in the team’s upcoming rookie minicamp May 8-9.
Frazier’s college career began in 2019 and culminated in 2024 with his only season as a starter at UTSA, the report says. The team announcement did not provide further details on next steps for Frazier or whether he will seek opportunities elsewhere.
