The Best Bets For The 2018 EPGA’s Golf Sixes This Week

EPGA

The European Tour will return to St. Alban, England and the Centurion Club golf course for the second edition of the Golf Sixes tournament this week. This year’s event will look a little different after the European Tour invited five leading players from the women’s game to take part in the competition. Georgia Hall and Charley Hull will make up the England women’s team while Melissa Reid will team up with Spain’s Carlota Ciganda to form another European entry. Meanwhile, Catriona Matthew will join forces with Thomas Bjorn to form the European Captains’ team. With the added element of competition, this year’s Golf Sixes will feature plenty of intrigue. Here is a look at the best bets for this week’s Golf Sixes tournament with the odds courtesy of BetDSI Sportsbook.

Event Details

Event: Golf Sixes

Category: European

Date: May 3rd-May 6th, 2018

Location: Centurion Club, St. Alban, England

The power hitters should have a considerable edge once again in this year’s tournament after Lucas Bjerregard and Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark excelled off the tee here when they won the inaugural edition of this tournament in 2017. It should be no surprise that the defending champions are among the favorites to win here again as their skill and experience should carry over with a chance to repeat at this event.

Past Winners

2017: Lucas Bjerregaard & Thorbjorn Olesen (Denmark)

The Favorites

Denmark +600

It won’t be easy for the Danes to defend their title against a talented field of competition but they can’t be overlooked after winning this tournament a year ago. Bjerregaard and Olesen undoubtedly have the skill to excel in this format and both are in decent form heading in to this week. Momentum and team chemistry make these two an excellent pick to repeat in the Golf Sixes event

Spain +600

Spain should have a good shot at stealing the title from the Danes this week with Pablo Larrazabal and Adrian Otaegui teaming up to represent their country. Otaegui is coming off a disappointing final round in China on Sunday and will need to move past it quickly in order to avoid a letdown. Meanwhile, Larrazabal has put together a couple of top-five finishes in his last three European Tour starts and should be confident heading in to this event. While most of the focus is on whether or not the Danes can repeat, Spain is a co-favorite at this tournament for a good reason.

France +600

The French team of Alexander Levy and Romain Wattel are the third of three co-favorites from this event and also shouldn’t be completely overlooked. Levy and Wattel are the favorite to emerge from Group C and are capable of making a deep run. The big question will be what happens after they win their group as last year all four group winners were beaten at the first knockout stage on Sunday. The French tandem deserves to be a co-favorite but might be the third-best option on the board as a betting pick behind Denmark and Spain.

Next In Line

England +800

England is ranked a tier below the betting favorites but should have an excellent shot at winning its group competing with South Africa, Sweden and the England Women team. Eddie Pepperell and Matt Wallace both have wins over their last four starts on their resume so the English tandem can’t be overlooked at the Golf Sixes this week.

South Africa +800

Perhaps George Coetzee and Haydn Porteous are being somewhat overlooked heading in to this week’s tournament. However, while Coetzee has excelled in recent weeks with three top-15 finishes including a win over his last three starts, Porteous has struggled without a top-25 finish over the same span. South Africa could surprise if Porteous rises to the challenge with a strong performance but it’s still a case of buyer beware as there is no guarantee that will happen this week.

Sleeper Pick

Thailand +1200

Only 10 of the 32 golfers competing in this year’s tournament played in its inaugural edition a year ago. Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Thongchai Jaidee are among the returning participants and their experience should help them this year. The Thailand representatives lost in the quarterfinals here a year ago but that was after qualifying with the best record of all 16 teams. Aphirbarnrat and Jaidee are an excellent sleeper pick to win here at +1200 odds to come out on top at the Golf Sixes this week.
