Best Teaser Pick for Week 13 – NCAA Betting Odds

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

There are worse things than going .500 with college football teaser picks, just look at some of my parlay picks over the last three months. Last week, I teased Notre Dame down to 3.5 in its game against Syracuse, and I added an extra touchdown with Colorado at home against Utah. While the Fighting Irish came through for me in a big way, winning 36-3, the Buffaloes were unable to deliver. Although the Utes were without their starting quarterback and starting running back, they knocked off the Buffs 30-7.

Now the goal is to finish the year with a winning record. Given the teasers I’ve been playing, finishing with a profit is no longer doable, but I can get to 7-6 on the year.

Nebraska +14.5 at Iowa

Memphis -1 vs. Houston

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have been playing very good football over the last month. Scott Frost got off to a rocky start on his much-hyped return to Lincoln, but the Huskers have now won four of their last five games and the offense was really humming against Minnesota, Ohio State, and Illinois.

Adrian Martinez has been just what the doctor ordered at quarterback. The dual-threat freshman from Fresno has been dangerous with both his arm and his legs, and Nebraska fans believe that they have their own McKenzie Milton now. He has improved greatly from week-to-week, especially now that he looks healthy, and both he and the Huskers are out to end their season on a high note.

Iowa does not have an offense that is going to put a lot of points on the board. The talk of Nathan Stanley being a potential first-round draft pick has died down considerably, and I don’t see the Hawkeyes scoring more than 24 points here. The weather forecast should help too, as it’s expected to be cold and rainy.

I believe there are some real problems between Ed Oliver and head coach Major Applewhite, and this is not the offense to face when there is internal consternation. The Tigers have one of the best quick-strike offenses in the country, and Darrell Henderson is a running back that needs just a hint of daylight to take one to the house.

Houston has other problems ahead of this one too. Star quarterback D’Eriq King hurt his knee and is out for the season, and back-up quarterback Bryson Smith is banged up too. Additionally, two of the Cougars’ top running backs and two quality receivers are inured, and I think there is a good chance they sputter out in what was once thought to be a track meet. I see Memphis scoring more than 40 on this defense, and I don’t believe Houston’s offense can keep up.
