Encarnacion Debuts for Yankees, Upton Homers on First Pitch and More

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

A debut with a new team is always an exciting event for a player, but when it’s the American League home run leader joining the Bronx Bombers? Especially when you’re going from a losing team to a World Series contender? That’s why Edwin Encarnacion is happy to be in pinstripes. Speaking of exciting, Justin Upton homered on his first pitch after returning from injury. And speaking of really exciting, doctors upgraded David Ortiz’s condition to good on Tuesday morning.

Edwin Encarnacion didn’t have a hit in his Yankees debut, but you’ve got to figure there are plenty of homers to come.

The season debut of Justin Upton couldn’t have gone better. He homered on the first pitch he saw.

The best news of the day came from Boston, where David Ortiz is now in “good” condition following his shooting in the Dominican Republic.

The Padres allowed 48 runs in a four-game series this past weekend in Colorado. So it had to be especially refreshing to return home and get a shutout of the Brewers from Joey Lucchesi and the bullpen.

We leave you with a nice play from the Texas Rangers on both ends of the infield.
