FIFA has approved Inter Milan forward Ange-Yoan Bonny’s change of national eligibility to Ivory Coast, the report says. The move was signed off on Friday and comes ahead of the World Cup, per the report.
Bonny is a France Under-21 international from the northern suburbs of Paris and was able to make the change under FIFA rules through family ties to Ivory Coast, the report says. The formal change had to be signed off by the French Football Federation and was posted by FIFA, per the report.
Ivory Coast is in a World Cup group with Germany, Ecuador and Curacao, the report says. Two of the team’s group games will be played in Philadelphia and one in Toronto, per the report.
At club level, Bonny has scored seven goals in his first season with Inter since joining from Parma, the report says. He featured in all 10 of Inter’s Champions League games, though he started only two; he did not score in the competition and recorded three assists, per the report.
The report does not detail whether Bonny will be immediately integrated into Ivory Coast’s tournament squad, but the FIFA approval makes him eligible to represent the nation at the World Cup, the report says.
