New York Jets running back Breece Hall, who was given the franchise tag in February, agreed to a three-year, $45.75 million contract Friday, his agent told ESPN.
The contract includes $29 million in guarantees, according to agent Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports. The average annual value of $15.25 million ranks third among running backs, behind Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey, the report says.
The value of the franchise tag was $14.3 million, and the report says that had Hall and the Jets not reached an agreement by July 15 he would have been required to play the 2026 season on a one-year contract for that tag amount.
The deal marks a notable turn after widespread trade speculation last fall. The Jets traded Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams at the Nov. 4 deadline, and Hall’s name was floated in those talks; the team ultimately retained him, making him one of the key parts of their rebuild, per the report. The two sides agreed to pause negotiations in early March so the Jets could focus on draft preparation, and general manager Darren Mougey said he planned to resume talks after the draft, feeling they were in “a good place.”
Hall reacted on social media, writing on X, “Cried for the first time since I tore my ACL. This day really hit different for me man,” per the report. He will turn 25 on May 31 and rushed for a career-high 1,065 yards in 2025 on a 3-14 team. Coaches had promoted him as a dual threat who would impact the passing game, but he made only 36 receptions, his second-lowest total in four seasons; the report notes things could be different under new offensive coordinator Frank Reich. In four seasons Hall has compiled 5,040 scrimmage yards, which ranks 14th in the league, and the report says he generated significant interest at the midseason trading deadline and later expressed disappointment that he wasn’t traded. The Jets are 22-46 with Hall on the roster under three different coaches, and the report says he and wide receiver Garrett Wilson are the team’s only two proven playmakers while the club used first-round picks this offseason on tight end Kenyon Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.
