The New York Jets are trading edge rusher Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat, according to ESPN sources. The move represents a notable swap of young defensive talent between two teams looking to reshape and reinforce their fronts on opposite levels of the line.

Johnson, a pass rusher who has lined up primarily on the edge, moves to a Titans defense that has traditionally emphasized strong line play and a physical front. His arrival gives Tennessee another option on the outside, bolstering a unit that relies heavily on pressure to disrupt opposing passing games. The Titans are expected to incorporate Johnson into their rotation of edge defenders, using his ability to get upfield and affect the quarterback in a variety of pass-rush packages.

Sweat, a defensive tackle, heads to a Jets team that has invested heavily in its defensive identity and trench play. By acquiring an interior lineman, New York adds more size and strength in the middle of its defensive front. Sweat’s presence on the inside is geared toward reinforcing run defense and helping collapse the pocket from the interior, complementing the Jets’ group of outside rushers and interior linemen.

This trade underscores differing but complementary priorities for both organizations. Tennessee secures another edge presence in Johnson, while New York targets additional depth and power at defensive tackle with Sweat. The transaction also reflects each team’s ongoing effort to balance its defensive personnel, aligning player skill sets with schematic preferences.

While contract specifics, draft considerations, and any additional terms were not immediately available, the core of the deal centers on a one-for-one exchange: Johnson to the Titans and Sweat to the Jets. Both players join new locker rooms with opportunities to carve out significant roles.

For the Jets, the addition of Sweat signals a continued emphasis on controlling the line of scrimmage from the inside out. For the Titans, Johnson offers another option off the edge to generate pressure, adding to the team’s defensive toolkit as both clubs look ahead to the coming season.
