MLB Betting:  The San Diego Padres visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night in a game that can be seen on MLB Network.  The Dodgers have played well in the past month and they have now caught the San Francisco Giants in the NL West. The Padres have also played better of late but they are not a contender after a very poor start to the season.  The Dodgers will be solid home favorites in this matchup.  Let’s look at the game and MLB picks.

Padres all about Pitching

The Padres have stayed respectable this season thanks to a pitching staff that ranks 4th in the league with an ERA of just over three. The problem for the team is an offense that is pathetic.  The Padres rank last in the league in runs scored. The team is about .500 at home but on the road they are awful.  They should be throwing Ian Kennedy on Saturday. He comes into this game at 7-9 on the season with a 3.71 ERA. He pitched well last time out in Colorado as he allowed only one run. His ERA on the road is a very respectable 3.49 this season. He has made 10 quality starts this season. He is 2-1 in his last three starts with a 2.79 ERA. He is 5-5 in his career against the Dodgers with a 4.40 ERA.

Dodgers Nothing Special at Home

The shocking part about the Dodgers this season is that they have been much better on the road than at home. They went into this series against the Padres with a losing home record. It is surprising the team could be in first place with a losing home mark. The team has great pitching but they actually rank behind the Padres at 6th in the league. The difference is that the Dodgers can hit as they are 10th in the league in runs scored.

Series Notes

Before Thursday’s game it was the Dodgers who had taken 7 of the last 10 in the series.  Based on the Dodgers struggles at home it may come as no surprise that the teams had split their last ten in L.A.

MLB Picks

We’ll go with the trends and take a shot with the underdog Padres on Saturday night.
