We have reached the quarter point of the NFL season. Every team, with the exception of the Carolina Panthers and Washington Redskins, has played at least four games — that’s a full 25 percent of the schedule. Safest Bets

The Los Angeles Rams (4-0) have jumped to the top of the list after a dominant September of NFL football. The Rams opened the season at +1000 and if you’re feeling that the boys from SoCal have it in the bag, you’re kicking yourself for not jumping on that action. Still, at +225 there’s money to be made. Is there a bump in the road for L.A.?

Beating the Vikings last Thursday knocked one out of the way. There’s probably not a game coming up on the remainder of the Rams’ schedule, barring injury, that they won’t be favored in — even when they host the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 16. With the rest of the NFC West in the midst of several different crash and burn scenarios, the Rams have an easy path to home field advantage in the playoffs, with likely a 13-3 record or better.

If you’ve watched the New England Patriots (2-2, +650), then you’ve seen a team that by no means should have the second best odds to win the Super Bowl on this list. But, it’s the Patriots and they’ve pulled these kinds of tricks before.

Everyone has plenty of reasons to fall in love with the Kansas City Chiefs (4-0, +750), but head coach Andy Reid has delivered perfect Septembers in the past (even last season). It’s the Novembers that seem to cause the problems. Maybe Patrick Mahomes is the antidote there, but just like the oddsmakers at DSI, I’ll have to see it happen to believe it.

Money Makers

Again, you have to actually watch the games and not just look at stats and flip on the NFL Red Zone channel. With the solid prime time slate the NFL has given us this season, it’s easy to slide into the best 1 p.m and 4 p.m. games to get a nice feel for what’s happening in the NFL and I’m here to tell you right now, the Cincinnati Bengals (3-1, +2800) are really good. Three years ago, before Andy Dalton broke his thumb, this was the best team in the league. Injuries and Marvin Lewis-luck fooled us for the past two seasons, but the Bengals are the real deal and at +2800, deliver a solid return.

I’d also look very hard at the Baltimore Ravens (3-1, +1800). Joe Flacco opened the year seemingly playing for his job. He’s easily on pace for the best regular season of his career and the only team that’s been able to slow him down are the aforementioned Bengals. This surprises some people, but it’s just the truth. Flacco is one of the three best postseason quarterbacks of his generation (along with Eli Manning and Tom Brady). He’s 10-5 and if you toss out his first two seasons (where he went 3-2 in the postseason), he’s got a 60 percent completion rate, thrown 24 touchdowns to four interceptions with a 7-3 record and a Super Bowl win. If Flacco gets into the tournament, anything can happen.

Also, I know they’re 2-2 and just lost to the Tennessee Titans, but the Philadelphia Eagles (+1500) are far from out of it. Carson Wentz is still getting his legs from under him. Let’s not write off the defending champs until November.
